Fan works

So here are a couple of cool things I’ve been given from fans recently.

First is a couple of art cards from Peter N. Trinh who gave these to us at TCAF. He drew most of the UK comic crowd on the tube and when joined together, it’s like we’re on the same carriage. Kinda cool, right? Thanks Peter, the cards are on our fridge, which I’m sure you agree, is very high acclaim, indeed.

Next up is a mix CD from Benn, Elliot and Robyn who dropped this off to me at the UK Web & Mini Comic Thing this year.  They found my work via the Los Campesinos! blog, so we had a bit of mutual gush and then when writing in their books I had to ask them how some lyrics went. Yeah, some fan I turned out to be. TSK. You have no idea how over the moon I was to get this, I love mix CDs and, man, we just don’t do them any more do we? I think I’ve got a shoe box or two back at my dad’s place just filled to the brim of these little gems with handmade covers that you know people spent days on and the pain that went into getting the right sequence of tracks.

Anyway, mix cds as gifts can be quite personal, but I liked this a lot and thought maybe the rest of you would too? So via the magic of Spotify you can listen to the CD here. Don’t have Spotify? Here’s the track listing to do what you want with…

Comic workshops

So a few weeks back I taught a few workshops with my good friend David for his Year 10 Media Studies class at Woodlands School, Basildon, Essex. Actually, this was the secondary school I went attended, so yeah, it was well weird going back there as it’s exactly the same.

We set them the task to create a 4 panel autobiographical comic and I think they did a great job for some kids who have never drawn comics before. Here’s one of the more artistically stronger pieces by Hannah Stephens…

And I really like this simple style by Robyn Peear

Hey, this weekend is The UK Web and Mini Comix Thing, a convention of small press and web comics in Mile End, London. I’ll be exhibiting along with Lizz Lunney, Adam Cadwell and Chris Doherty.

The Thing seems to get better with each year and I’ve got some sweet new merch to sell, plus the usual mini comics, graphic novels and badges. Here’s what’s new…

First up, the Ellerbisms Tote Bag! Screen printed on a canvas tote bag, these are eco friendly and the handles aren’t annoyingly long like most tote bags. Bonus! (You have no idea how much it annoys me)

Hourly Comic 2010

Hey guys, here is my Hourly Comic for 2010. It’s a few days late, but I couldn’t not do one for this year, so deadlines aside here is a special little (rough around the edges) Ellerbisms for a Friday afternoon.

Back again

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the unexpected month hiatus from Ellerbisms. If you weren’t following me on Twitter and didn’t know what was up, first of all me and Anna moved flat (which left little time to draw the strips) and then it took forever to get our broadband reconnected (which left no means for me to post the eventually drawn strips). I’m sure the world continued to rotate without regularly updated comics of my face.

If you’ve read today’s strip you may have noticed that it looks a little different from what you’re used to seeing. The reason is I’m now drawing Ellerbisms at a larger scale than before as I filled up the A5ish Moleskin I was using a few weeks back and have now moved onto one of the swanky new A4ish ones. I really like the shift in scale and it’s sort of given me a little refresh with Ellerbisms and I’m starting to really get back into drawing them.

Another change is the update schedule, with me stripping away the Thursday update for the time being. I’ve been really busy recently drawing my other comic Chloe Noonan (Issue 2 avaliable to buy here) and I want to continue to draw it for some time to come, so that means Ellerbisms needs to be reduced and not go away like it often does when I want to draw Noonan. There’ll be a normal update on a Monday from now on and over the coming weeks the site will change a little to accomidatethe new size of the strips and content.

Regarding Christmas delivery details, if you live in the UK and want to buy something from me as a gift for Christmas then by golly you better get your order in before the 17th of December or I can’t guarantee it’ll arrive in time for Crimbo. If you live outside the UK then my advice is to get on it ASAP. I can do book dedications, just let me know in …the “message to seller” box when you check out.
